Mechanical Engineering/Production Engineering and Management - Bachelor of Engineering (B.Eng.)
The program Production Engineering and Management at the Hochschule Pforzheim focuses on the most important part of the value-added chain in Baden-Württemberg's economy, namely; production technology. Among the key topics within production technology are laser technology, forming and stamping technology, which represent an important economic factor for the region Northern Black Forest and are known beyond the region. The areas of automation and handling technology complement the portfolio of the program.
Develop new production procedures!
Control intelligent manufacturing processes!
Calculate, plan and supervise production!
Study Program Overview
The bachelor of Mechanical Engineering/Production Engineering and Management links the classical mechanical engineering with modern production techniques and management methods. The core areas are, for example, the optimization of manufacturing processes regarding quality, costs and effectiveness as well as the organization and management of production.
In the first section of your study (1st and 2nd semesters), the foundations are laid for the electives. Key basic topics in mathematical and natural sciences (technical mechanics, mathematics etc.), basics in engineering sciences (materials science, electrical engineering), design and development (construction theory) and basic principles of production (production engineering) are looked into. As a rule, the lectures are accompanied by practical laboratory exercises, so that the theoretically acquired knowledge is immediately put into praxis. From the first semester onwards competences to identify and solve problems are taught in project work. In doing so, engineering-scientific thinking and action are practiced.
Lectures in the second section of study (3rd to 7th semesters) mainly focus on product engineering and production management. To further broaden instructional contents in technical mechanics and mechanical design, more electives are offered in the 3rd and 4th semesters. These include measurement and test technology, basic programming, thermodynamics and control technology. The focus in the 4th semester is put towards essential aspects on the subject areas logistics, quality and management, as well as the automation of production processes. The 5th semester is reserved for internship, which must completed in a company. During the internship students are trained to carry out challenging engineering tasks in a company and thus become acquainted with the future working environment. In the 6th and 7th semesters, students will attend seminars and complete project work and thus use, connect and expand the already acquired knowledge and skills from their studies. Moreover, students can compile an individual set of courses from a catalog with various profile and electives. The 7th semester is allocated for the bachelor thesis.
