Students receive a broad basic training in the relevant engineer-scientific knowledge and skills at the beginning of their studies, which is then followed by electives in specialised areas of concept development and a detailed look into constructional implementation of innovative products. In the methodical development and optimization of products, cost and quality aspects are taken into account when looking for solutions. This program has a wide spectrum. You will learn to develop, design and market a product from the initial idea to series production.
In the first section of your study (1st and 2nd semesters), the foundations are laid for the electives. Key basic topics in mathematical and natural sciences (technical mechanics, mathematics etc.), basics in engineering sciences (materials science, electrical engineering), design and development (construction theory) and basic principles of production (production engineering) are looked into. As a rule, the lectures are accompanied by practical laboratory exercises, so that the theoretically acquired knowledge is immediately put into praxis. From the first semester onwards competences to identify and solve problems are taught in project work. In doing so, engineering-scientific thinking and action are practiced.
The lectures in the second section of study (3rd to 7th semesters) focus mainly on product development. To further broaden instructional contents in technical mechanics and mechanical design, more electives are offered in the 3rd and 4th semesters. These include measurement and test technology, basic programming, thermodynamics and control technology. The focus in the 4th semester also incorperates major aspects in the areas of mechatronics and drive technology as well as management in product development. The 5th semester is allocated to an internship, which must completed in a company. During the internship, students are trained to carry out challenging engineering tasks in a company and thus, become acquainted with the future working environment. In the 6th and 7th semesters, students will attend seminars and complete project work and thus use, connect and expand the already acquired knowledge and skills from their studies. Moreover, students can compile an individual set of courses from a catalog with various profile and electives. The 7th semester is allocated for the bachelor thesis.

Math preparatory course
An 8-week internship must be completed by the beginning of study in a company, or at the latest by the end of the 3rd semester. No internship is required if you have completed an apprenticeship.
A math preparation course takes place two weeks prior to the beginning of lectures. All first year students must attend this course. Zwei Wochen vor Vorlesungsbeginn findet der statt. Er ist für alle Studierende im 1. Semester verpflichtend.
